Cashier Mariana Herrera paid forward $500 to the Greenville Humane Society in memory of her Yorkie Named Candy, who she lost earlier this year.
The 501(c) (3) non-profit organization provides its shelter pets with daily enrichment, attention, and medical care. They also offer a wide variety of preventative services like vaccinations and spay/neuter clinics to make proper pet care affordable for the community.
Last year, the Greenville Humane Society found homes for 3,913 pets and treated 4,399 for illness or injury.
Mariana says, “I have seen Greenville Humane Society on social media seeking help for the animals that have to undergo surgery and other procedures and after losing Candy, it made me want to give back to other pets that are in need of help.”
Humane Society receives no government funding and operates solely on donations.

The Pay It Forward program began in 2015.
Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds will come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
Employees and the community will enable individual employees to help individuals in the community, and that’s a win-win situation.
