Field Service Technician Bradley Taylor paid forward $500 to Upstate Backpack Blessings, which provides supplemental food bags for at-risk school children in our area.
Bradley said, “No child should have to go without or worry about their next meal.”
In the early 2000s, school lunchroom employee Alice Prevatt saw children who were coming to school hungry and could not pay for lunch. She bought food, asked people to donate, and assembled bags for these children to take home.
Through the years, the program grew as Alice was assisted by a group of regular volunteers. Those volunteers coordinate with school faculty members who know children in need, and they gather food, pack bags and deliver the bags to numerous local schools.
Today, Upstate Backpack Blessings is a Mission Partner of 1st Baptist Simpsonville Upstate Church and operates under the umbrella of their 501(c) (3). They are also a Mission Partner with Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, which provides a secure long-term facility from which to operate.
