LEC Dispatch Controller Sherry Brantley paid forward $500 to co-worker and Customer Service Representative Jamesia
In addition to suffering from a medical condition that has caused her to miss work, Jamesia – a single mother – also recently became guardian of her two nephews as well as full time caretaker of her grandmother.
Sherry said, “With the just the help of family and friends, Jamesia has provided a safe and loving home not only for her son, but for extended members of her family. I’m hoping the Pay It Forward gift will assist her with medical bills as well as some support for her household.”
Furthermore, Sherry said, “I’ve known Jamesia for several years and she has always been a hard working coworker and caring mother. Her dedication to Laurens Electric is without question and she has given money and volunteered her personal time to charities, never asking anything in return.”
For her part, Jamesia said, “The past 2 years have been very hard. There are days I don’t know if I’m coming or going. Sherry has been an awesome friend and prayer partner and has encouraged me and picked me up when I was down. I could never thank her enough.”
The Pay It Forward program, begun in 2015, was born out of a desire to continue the good work of the 75 Acts of Kindness community initiative.
Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds will come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
Employees and the community will enable individual employees to help individuals in the community, and that’s a win-win situation.
