Lineman Justin Smith paid forward $500 to Bridging the Gap Advocacy Community Center serving Laurens County.
The 501(c) (3) non-profit organization aims to assist children and their parents in discovering their natural talents and gifts to bridge the gap between their aspirations and potential. They promote faith, education, health and wellness, job training, and employment initiatives.
Retired and active teachers and community leaders provide tutorial services for students, instruction in conflict resolution techniques, college search and application assistance, job skills preparation workshops, and much more.
Bridging the Gap held a summer camp in June and July that featured field trips and instruction from retired educators, including intros to public speaking, piano, and agriculture. Starting August 1st, the Center will offer an after-school program from 3:00 – 6:00 PM.

The Pay It Forward program began in 2015.
Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds will come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
Employees and the community will enable individual employees to help individuals in the community, and that’s a win-win situation.
