Member Service Representative Lesley Cadden paid forward $500 to Meals On Wheels (MOW) Greenville County.
The service MOW provides is deeply personal to Lesley and her family. “My uncle Mickey was injured in an accident when I was younger and through the years Meals on Wheels assisted him with food and companionship on the days we couldn’t visit,” she says.
Years later, when her uncle didn’t respond to his food delivery one morning, MOW called for a welfare check.
Lesley says, “He had passed overnight. Meals on Wheels saved my family the horror of finding him the next day. I remember my mother being very grateful.
Meals on Wheels has delivered meals and a daily visit to the homebound in Greenville for more than 50 years. According to mealsonwheelsgreenville.org, they prepare and deliver an average of 1,239 meals each day.
The organization also delivered 4,707 gifts this holiday season and even has a pet food program.
They utilize more than 2,000 volunteers and need more drivers to expand the program. To donate, volunteer, or refer a client, visit mealsonwheelsgreenville.org.
Laurens Electric’s Pay It Forward program began in 2015.
Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
Employees and the community will enable individual employees to help individuals in the community, and that’s a win-win situation.
