Engineering Aide Pam Campbell paid forward $500 to NHC Laurens rehabilitation department.
Ten years ago, Pam was hospitalized with Wegner’s autoimmune disease.
“I was so weak after being intubated for 3 weeks that I could not do regular therapy,” Pam said. That’s when her family began looking into nursing homes.
“NHC had room for me and while I was there, I spent a lot of time in the rehab department. Everyone in the department was really good to me. One lady even brought me sushi, and another helped me make a valentine for my husband Henry. I appreciate everything they did for me and I haven’t forgotten them,” she added.
Amy Jones, NHC’s Director of Rehabilitation said NHC-Laurens therapy will utilize the donation for needed equipment, specifically new hand and wrist and ankle weights to increase patients’ strength and participation during daily living activities with the goal to return to home if possible.”
NHC HealthCare Laurens’ campus is home to a post-acute 24-hour skilled nursing Health Care Center providing for individuals who need skilled nursing care after a stroke, joint replacement surgery, a cardiac procedure or a serious illness.
The Pay It Forward program began in 2015.
Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds will come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
Employees and the community will enable individual employees to help individuals in the community, and that’s a win-win situation.
