Lineman Taylor Kelly paid forward $500 to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate and Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Carolinas.
“When my daughter, Parker, was in NICU at Prisma Health they took very good care of her, and we stayed at the nearby Ronald McDonald House while she was being treated,” said Kelly.
“It really helped not to have to travel out of town when we were going through such a difficult time.”
Parker is now a healthy and happy two-year-old.
Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate treats 500,000 infants, children and adolescents each year and is the region’s only pediatric hospital recognized by the Children’s Hospital Association.
The Ronald McDonald House in Greenville was founded in 1989 by local McDonald’s owner and current board member, Frank Landgraff, in partnership with Prisma Health Children’s Hospital–Upstate and in response to a critical need for housing and emotional support for families whose children were being treated.

The Pay It Forward program began in 2015. Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
