Laurens Electric awarded a Community Impact Initiative grant to Laurens High School’s Future Farmers of America at the Laurens County Chamber of Commerce’s annual banquet in February.
The Future Farmers of America (FFA) group plans to use the funds to help build a show arena that students can use to prepare for livestock competitions, tractor driving, and more.
Agriculture Education Teacher and FFA Advisor Anna Crowder says, “This project will help our students build the confidence they need to compete at a higher level. Success in the show ring will open the door for many scholarship opportunities.”
FFA students will work in partnership with the school’s Agriculture Department, and collaborate with welding, construction, and graphic design classes to complete the project.
Crowder says, “We have a wonderful Agriculture and Horticulture program at Laurens District 55. We are strong and steadily growing. These young people are our future, by investing in them we are investing in the future of our community.”
Laurens Electric’s Community Impact Initiative provides grants up to $2000 intended to enrich the quality of life of citizens in the communities the cooperative serves. Funding for the initiative comes from Laurens Electric’s annual charity events.
