Contract Supervisor Keith Coker paid forward $500 to Honea Path resident Jamie Sims, who lost his home and his wife Dawn in a house fire on November 5.
Keith said, “I grew up not far from where Jamie lived. He’s lost absolutely everything.”
The effort to help Sims is being coordinated by the Pelzer Mill Hill Outreach program where both Jamie and Dawn volunteered. The 501(c)(3) organization is collecting donations to help Jamie get back on his feet.
Contributions for Jamie or memorials for Dawn can be sent to Pelzer Mill Hill Outreach, c/o Kenny Andrews, 34 Adger Street, Pelzer, SC 29669.
The Pay It Forward program began in 2015. Every Laurens Electric Cooperative employee is entered into a random drawing to receive $500 to pay forward in any way they choose. Each month a new name is drawn, and the employee then has one month to apply the funds toward their own act of kindness.
This initiative is budget-neutral; the funds come from Laurens Electric’s charity events, which employee volunteers make possible.
