120 local business leaders competed in Laurens Electric’s annual benefit golf tournament on June 17 at Holly Tree Country Club in Simpsonville.
Golfers from local businesses as well as other co-ops participated in the event, which netted $21,000 in proceeds.
First place tournament winners were Jerry O’Bryant, Rodney Stevenson, Tyler Croxton, and Cason Mabry, representing Piedmont Rural Telephone Corp. Michael Manness and Daniel Dye also took home prizes for closest to the pin and longest drive.
The event provides participants with a great networking opportunity, as well as an avenue for active community involvement.
Laurens Electric’s David Hammond, who organizes the event, said “this year’s turnout and amount raised was the highest yet in the 20-plus years we’ve been hosting the tournament. And we couldn’t make it all happen without our employee volunteers.”
Proceeds are used to fund the Cooperative Caring program and the Community Impact Initiative.
The Cooperative Caring program assists members who face difficulties paying their electric bills and has helped more than 2500 families so far.
The Community Impact Initiative provides grants of up to $2,000 to local charities for purposes that enrich the quality of life in our communities. Recipients are chosen by their local chambers of commerce for projects that include innovative, creative, and practical solutions to community needs.
