Cashier Raven Dean paid forward $500 to the Media Ministry at Poplar Spring AME Church in Laurens.
The donation will help improve the quality of worship services and outreach efforts by upgrading the church’s media room with essential equipment, specifically new microphones.
The Media Ministry will be able to purchase high quality microphones that will significantly enhance their live-streamed services, in-person worship experience, and community outreach programs.
Raven says, “This donation will ensure that the message of faith, hope, and encouragement reach both the congregation and those who join online.”
Poplar Spring AME celebrated its 200th anniversary in February.
According to GoLaurens.com, residents of Ora Station first began meeting together in 1825. They later moved their gatherings near Watts Cotton Mill. The group took the church’s name from their meeting place that happened to be located near a spring and cluster of poplar trees. As the congregation grew, a brush arbor was constructed and given the name Poplar Spring around 1872. The first wooden structure was built approximately ten years later.
Today, the church is active in charitable programs in the community and offers a variety of services and activities for young and old, such as its annual Easter Egg Hunt on April 19.
